- Create Tissue Paper Mosaic Turkeys– Here’s what you need: half of a paper plate, cutouts for the turkey’s head, eyes, beak, wattle, legs, and small squares of fall-colored tissue paper. Students will choose their desired colors and glue them to the paper plate for the feathers. Students will then glue the cutouts to create the face of the turkey.
2. Read Thanksgiving Books- What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than to read all about it? Here’s a roundup of my favorite!
3. Disguise a Turkey- If you’ve read TURKEY TROUBLE by Wendi Silvano, help the turkey out by creating a unique disguise to prevent it from being dinner for Thanksgiving! This is a perfect Thanksgiving family project as students can be creative with their families and share creations with the class.
Disguise a turkey for Christmas too! The sequel to the TURKEY TROUBLE is TURKEY CLAUS! Don’t stop at disguising the turkey just on Thanksgiving! It needs help for Christmas too! Here are some fun crafts and writing activities just in time for the Christmas season too!
4. Create a Thankful Turkey Chart– Discuss what being thankful means and encourage each student to share what they are thankful for. Here’s an easy-to-create and reusable chart below using sticky notes for students’ responses.
5. Create a Thankful Turkey Craft Writing Activity– Help your students write and share all the things that they are thankful for with this FREE Turkey Craft. Use the template for the turkey pieces then glue them together to create an easy-to-complete craftivity!

7. Create Rules for Thanksgiving– The book Thanksgiving Rules by Laurie Friedman & Illustrated by Teresa Murfin has been a classroom favorite of mine. This is a fun rhyming book to help little feasters follow all the rules to ensure a fun and festive Thanksgiving meal! After reading, create this fun chef’s hat together to write and remember all the Thanksgiving Rules that students have created together.
8. Learn about Turkeys– What is Thanksgiving without turkeys?! Here’s a fun-filled packet with reading, writing, and science activities plus headbands all on turkeys!
However you decide to celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you have a tur-iffic time with your students!
