- Nursery Rhyme STEM Challenges– Take a well-known nursery rhyme and give it a STEM twist! For example, I encouraged my students to recite the poem “Hey Diddle Diddle” and explain what the poem is about. Next, I share with them that while running away, the Dish accidentally tripped and broke a piece of herself. Last, I present the students with the challenge to use different types of materials, design and plan a protective wear for the dish to prevent her from further breaking, and then test it out!

2. STEM Games– STEM games are one of the easiest ways to introduce STEM thinking in the classroom! Students can use their creative thinking to create different structures with different tools. These STEM games below are the ones that my students have used as they are engaging, and interactive, and come with task cards to guide students and their thinking.
3. Set Up an Engineering Journal– If you are planning to incorporate STEM into your classroom, set your students up for success by helping them set up an Engineering journal at the beginning of the year! This ensures that students can get into the Engineering mindset by learning more about the Engineering Design Process and the steps that it takes for students to create, build, refine, and share their designs.
