Memorial Day is the time to honor the veterans who have given their lives for our country. To help little learners learn and understand the significance of Memorial Day, here are some easy-to-do activities for the classroom.

1. DIY Memorial Day Float– Review all of the U.S. symbols then create a U.S.-themed float using tissue boxes/shoeboxes and toilet paper rolls! Simply choose a box of choice and use tissue paper, toilet paper rolls, and decorations to decorate their float to share.

2. American Flag Paper Chains– Work together as a class or grade level to create a beautiful American flag using paper chains. The amazing PTA from our school created this with the students and it turned out so beautiful and meaningful. It also serves as a gorgeous artwork.

3. Honor a Veteran– Encourage students to share and honor a veteran with this poster! Working with their parents at home, students will fill out this poster with information about a veteran that they know to share with the class. Click on the image to grab this FREEBIE now!

4. Memorial Day Activities– Celebrate Memorial Day, Flag Day, and July 4th with this 23-page ELA and SS packet! With kid-friendly informational text paired with reading comprehension and meaningful writing activities, students will gain a better understanding of each holiday and be able to connect with them.
